    “Bullshit,” Hayden responds. “You never have plans.”

    Objectively, this used to be true. Nowadays Shane has many, many plans, between his nightly plans to look at Ilya’s penis through Skype and his various long-term plans laid out helpfully in his notebook, Canva (For Ilya’s sake. He is a visual learner), and more recently, Excel. Shane loves that excel sheet. He’s colour coded it.

     

    In 2017, Shane Hollander spirals and proposes to his boyfriend of 4 days (or 7 years, or 9 years, or not his boyfriend at all, depending on how you look at it), which leads to a lot of plans, weird theories in the Montreal Voyageur locker room, some Twitter drama, and Ilya Rozanov entering his WAG era.

    Basically I drop the Centaur's rookies into 2017 as a plot device for shenanigans and fixing Hollanov's relationship. Then I send them home and let the butterfly effect run rampant.

Trapped beneath twisted metal, Ilya is running out of time. And while they wait for help, the secret they've spent years protecting slips into the hands of strangers with phones.

    He lowers the phone, and Hayden instantly launches into his rambling before Shane can get a word in. “Listen, I saw you were panicking, and you were so far away that you were barely responding, so I thought I’d call your girl, I thought maybe she knew how to help you better or she could talk to you, I thought–I don’t fucking know what I was thinking, but then he picked up the phone, and–”

    “How do you know my passcode?” Shane asks again.

    “That’s what you’re focusing on?” Hayden is basically yelling at this point. “Rozanov is screwing your girlfriend, and you’re worried about how I know your fucking passcode?”

    Shane’s brain fully short-circuits.

    “Rozanov is what?”

     
    Or: Shane accidentally wears Ilya’s jersey to his team practice. The Voyageurs react about as well as is to be expected, and Hayden jumps to some very confident and very incorrect conclusions.
