Summary
The good news: Viktor took a break at the right time for Jayce to watch him in the afternoon light, when he went to sit on the armchair by the window. It was an ethereal image - the sun caught the wild strands of his hair, dipping them in gold.
The bad news: there was no way to represent this without switching to toned paper.
The good news: Jayce bought toned paper.
The bad news: Viktor ended up looking more like some kind of bioluminescent hedgehog.

Viktor's eyes narrow. "I can't say. The trial was… interrupted."
Jayce takes a deep breath, dredging up his courage for… whatever he’s about to say, he barely knows before he hears the words trip off his own tongue:
"Can I help?"

Summary
Six years after he and Viktor part ways on antagonistic terms, Jayce wakes up in the Machine Herald’s medical clinic.
Jayce desperately wants to rub at his forehead, but the binding at his wrist stops him. He settles for squeezing his eyes shut. “Why?” he asks.
Viktor is silent for barely a moment. He says, tonelessly, “I assumed this was preferable to dying.”
