Seulgi swallowed down a lump that had formed in her throat. She had hoped that Jaeyi had been joking when she first pitched the idea to her earlier that day.

“I didn’t think you’d come.”
The words are so startling that Jaeyi can’t help but panic. “Why? Are you angry that I was so late?”
“No,” Seulgi smiles, and Jaeyi relaxes. She wouldn’t lie to her. “It’s just, people tend to easily forget about me. So I’m not used to doing the waiting. I don’t really like doing so.”
Sometimes Jaeyi forgets just how much Seulgi went through before they met. And yet, here Woo Seulgi is, carrying a fire as fierce as if no one has ever tried to stomp it out by force.
Unlike her. Who has every power in the world to keep hers burning, but ultimately failed to do so. That is, until she found something, someone, worth fighting for.
“I don’t know about other people, but I always keep my promises. So you always have to wait for me, okay?” Then, because of a little pinprick of guilt, Jaeyi adds with a sheepish smile. “Of course, I’ll be late sometimes. But I promise I’ll make it.”
Deeming the conversation finished, Jaeyi goes to break eye contact. But the hand seizing her wrist stops her dead in her tracks.

The first thing Jaeyi remembers thinking about Woo Seulgi was how strong she was. Growing up in that orphanage, Jaeyi knows Seulgi couldn’t afford to be anything but, that her resilience doesn’t come despite her hardships but because of them.
Jaeyi, who has never once had to fight for anything in her life, finds that about Woo Seulgi so admirable, so inspiring.
The thing about looking up to someone is that sometimes you forget, they’re just as human as you are, and the image you cultivate of them isn’t always true.
The sentiment rings true now, with Seulgi’s teary eyes staring back at Jaeyi through the mirror. Looking so unlike the Woo Seulgi that’s committed to making her own path, to living her own life, to fighting back her monsters with teeth.
Seulgi’s no more than a kicked puppy now, hiding her face with a jerk as if she’s just now aware she’s shown too much of herself.
Jaeyi’s heart hurts. She thought Seulgi trusted her by now.

Basically, they are in university. They are academic rivals (at least, in the mind of Seul-gi and everyone else). They hook up at a party. Seul-gi assumes it was just a one-time thing. Jae-yi assumes they are now dating. Neither of them bothers to clarify.
Cue months of miscommunication, stolen kisses, and Seul-gi trying (and failing) to pretend she’s not obsessed with Jae-yi. Meanwhile, Jae-yi is just happily being Seul-gi’s totally-official, totally-not-casual girlfriend… even though Seul-gi doesn’t know it yet.
It’s messy. It’s ridiculous. It’s two idiots in love who can’t talk to each other.
