She's outside Lena's office, when a distinct fluctuation in its pattern, has her eavesdropping on a private conversation and the next thing she knows, she's agreeing to go on a date with the woman she's been thinking about asking out for longer than she cares to admit.

Summary

When a stray tabby cat named Streaky shows up at her door, Kara takes him in and slowly starts to see that a little companionship might not be so bad after all.
Kara’s commitment to give the search for love a rest, is further challenged when she meets Lena, an animal lover and veterinary student who teaches Kara how to care for her new feline roommate. Chemistry immediately develops between the two, but Lena is very adamant about not believing in love, and has decided to not even start dating until she finishes school.

Kara frowns. “What about my civic duty?”
Her sister ignores her. She’s on her phone, already finding her an out. “Your occupation should qualify you for an exemption,” she discovers. “It says here, if you’re full-time military, or a firefighter, or a cop—”
Kara holds the letter up for Alex to read. “They didn’t summon Supergirl,” she says. “They summoned Kara Danvers, freelance food critic and full-time reporter.”
