  1. Summary

    soulmate
    /ˈsəʊlmeɪt/
    noun
a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner.

    ------------------------

    Here are the rules:

    - Each soulmate gets one part of your body. It might be your left forearm, your right knee, your hand. Anything you write on that part will show up on that soulmates skin, in the exact spot you wrote it.
    - Each soulmate gets a colour. One colour, that’s it, and no matter what they write with, it will always show up in that colour.
    - The amount of soulmates you have is written over your heart. The number stays with you from when you are born until you die. When a soulmate dies, the number drops.
    - You don’t control how old you are when the magic kicks in and your soulmate/s start to see what you write, and it’s not always the same for each soulmate. You might be five when you start to write to one, you might be fifteen for another, and you might have to wait until you’re fifty for someone else.
    - You can’t tell your soulmate any identifying characters about you; not your age, not where you live, not what you look like - and most definitely not your name.

Those are the rules. Good luck :)

    Summary

“The compass,” he starts. “It’s been moving differently. It doesn’t work as well anymore.”

Niklaus leans forward greedily. “Where is it pointing to?”

    Chip stays silent.

“Let me rephrase myself,” says Niklaus. “Who is it pointing to?”

A coral crown, a wide grin, the arc of a broadsword slicing through air—

“Gill,” Chip rasps out, fingernails digging white crescents into the backs of his hands. “It’s pointing to Gillion.”

    -

Caught at the crossroads of desire, Chip has his mind set on finding the Black Rose pirates. But his heart tells a different story, and when he’s trapped in a time loop that resets upon Gillion's death, he’ll be forced to reckon with his own feelings — one way or another.

    Summary

He also lies more. He lies and lies and lies.

He lies that he’s as cold and vicious as people say, because solitude is better than being prey. He lies that his name is based off of his middle name - he doesn’t even have one - because people rarely call him what he tells them to unless there’s a reason that can be put down on an official document. He lies and feigns indifference, because he’s done with being bullied for that kid who likes poetry and theater and philosophers older than grandparents.

He lies and lies and lies and lies until no one knows what is true.

He lies that he doesn’t care to meet his soulmates. That’s the biggest lie of them all.

Because despite his cynicism and pessimism and everything else in between, he can’t help but hope that when he meets his soulmates, they’ll take him away from all the lies.

He does wonder sometimes, though, if he’s lying to himself by even considering that a possibility.

After all, who could love a liar?
