Twenty-four hours ago, a coalition of dedicated men and women from around the world stopped a nuclear Holocaust. Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley had watched a sergeant, his sergeant, take a bullet to the head. For the second time in his career, he felt truly unhinged. Rage, all molten magma and overwhelming pressure, poured out of him and for a moment he truly was the God of Death. Blades snapped off in bone, throats torn out with bare hands, and the screaming. A howling that had the Konni soldiers faltering as he tore through them…only stopping when he caught Makarov by the arm…and then it was just long enough to let the subway train carry him further down the collapsing tunnel. He had, in a fit of wrath, wanted to keep the limb…a dedication to the sergeant he hadn’t realized meant so much to him until it was all too late.
Until it wasn’t.

Summary

“I’d be real careful with that line o’ thinkin’,” he warns, raising an arm and bringing it to brace against the wall beside her head, all but pinning her to it. They may not be physically touching, but they’re so close to it and he’s looking at her like she’s a meal (which should be concerning because she knows he literally eats people) and she really, really wishes they were touching right now. “Because I can be nice. Real nice.” His free hand reaches up to her face, and she’s so focused on watching his expression and how close his face is to hers that she doesn’t even realize until his thumb brushes over the barely-healing split in her lip. “…But I don’t think nice is what ya’ want, is it?”

She’s pouting again. “Maybe you should just go on ahead without me. I’ll find a safe spot where I can curl up and be sickly for a few days, and then I’ll catch up with you in Vegas. How does that sound?”
It sounds fucking stupid. “Every radroach in the area will smell yer bile and eat you alive while you’re disoriented.”
Her brow furrows. “Well, you certainly paint quite the picture.”
“I’m tellin’ ya, Sweetheart, the drugs are the only way to go. At least for now. Worry ‘bout gettin’ clean after we find yer daddy.”

AKA, after leaving the ncr camp, cooper and lucy get attacked by raiders and while they have the advantage, they drag lucy away leaving cooper with no choice but to go on another hunt for her...he finds her in an unexpected manner and gets her to safety and doesn't anticipate the way she wants to return the favour
