    General William Falkirk is made an offer: surrender to the mercies of the enemy king and his country’s people will be spared. Expecting nothing but brutal execution, William agrees — only to find that King Alexander has no intention of granting death to the man who killed his father.

    Stripped of his old life — enslaved and put to gruelling labour — William fights to keep his sense of self and dignity, unable to understand the depths of the powerful young king's unsettling preoccupation with him.
