Summary
Hayden Pike was not a conspiracy theorist. Not even a little bit. Unlike many professional athletes, he had not received quite enough head injuries to be won over by crazies on the internet claiming that the earth was flat or that jet fuel can't melt steel beams. No, Hayden was a straightforward man who believed in facts and logic. He didn't overthink events or analyze interactions for hidden meanings. He was generally content to accept things people told him at face value, especially if those people were his best friend of nearly a decade.
So when Shane started driving to Ottawa more often, he didn't initially think much of it... at least at first.Or: A slightly canon divergent version of how Hayden finds out. Mostly book inspired. Set after Ilya moves to Ottawa.

“I would hope not,” JJ snorted, nodding as his eyes glanced at Shane’s shirt for a short moment. “Looks a bit big, Hollzy. Trying to put on some muscle and take my spot as Montreal’s enforcer?”
Shane frowned, glancing down at the shirt he had thrown on without a second glance. He wasn’t proud of the way he let his alarm run through, keeping him twenty minutes late from the schedule he had planned in his head. It was fine, he reached the airport on time (and was earlier than half of Team Canada). But it had left him frazzled.
So frazzled that he hadn’t even stopped to think about the shirt he pulled on.
His cheeks burned with stark realisation as he glanced down at the black Bauer shirt he was wearing. It wasn’t his, and JJ clearly knew that too considering it was at least two sizes bigger than the ones Shane usually wore.
Because it was Ilya’s.

Or, Shane's habit of stealing clothes from a certain blond Russian and being caught red-handed a few times.

David Hollander loves Instagram.
Ilya showed it to him one night while he was having dinner with them, specifically posts from the Foundation and the camps, and it somehow led to David setting up his own account. For the most part, it’s dinner and Yuna and sometimes Shane, but there are also pieces of Ilya there: a completed puzzle, chicken parmesan, ice cream. David can’t post Ilya, obviously, but he wants Ilya to look at his account and know that he’s there, too.
When the video comes out, and the boys are thrown into a chaos they don’t deserve, some selfish part of David is relieved because now the entire world can know how much David–how much all the Hollanders–love Ilya Rozanov.
