Irritation buzzed under his skin like a nest of hornets. It had started the moment mother told him about the assignment and had not gone away since. They could have sent a curse to retrieve the finger. It would have been faster, quieter, and far less annoying. Instead, they sent him, handed him a uniform, and told him to walk into a school full of normal teenagers and pretend to be one of them. The memory alone made his jaw tighten slightly.

Summary
Enjin never found Zanka at the bottom of the well. The boy who crawled out was not reborn, not encouraged, and definitely not a Giver. He goes home, and now knows he is nothing.
He grows into a fine and respectable Nijiku Son, serving under his Sister’s command. When the Giver HQ reports losing a new member to a kidnapping attempt while taking down the largest trash beast seen in 6 years, Zanka follows his sister to discuss retrieving the boy. He thinks it will be a route mission—that is, until he’s enlisted to find the boy. Right alongside the Givers he hates.

"Ugh shit" Enjin groaned as he accidentally dropped his sandwich in the well. As he went to looked inside to see if it was deep or not to be able to get his sandwich back, his eyes narrowed for a moment before they went wide with worry.
"Shit.." He mumbled, Riyo, confused, turned her head toward the older man to also look inside the well to see what made Enjin looked so panicked. When she realized she could have sworn her heart skipped a beat.
There was a kid in there.
Was he even alive ???

It took a few seconds, like the man up there was calculating, before a slow, hollowing voice echoed down. "Are you stupid?" It asked, slicing into Zanka's psyche and opting him out of himself. He couldn't bear to tear his eyes from where his feet sank into the ground, but still, all his attention was on Zodyl now.
