Summary
People like Chris Redfield were easy to love. People like Leon S. Kennedy were not. This was just the way the world worked.
Leon was only getting older. It seemed every turn he took, he fell further and further into the hole he was digging for himself. The only thing he could do know was starting planning an exit. The only wrench in his plan is the unending stubbornness of Chris Redfield, who can't seem to leave him alone. After a mission that they're forced to complete together, they keep running into each other despite Leon's wishes. He would have to spell it out for Chris; there was no saving him now.

Summary

After the third declined call, he had given up on Claire. Chris scrolled through the rest of his contacts and wracked his brains for who, besides Claire, could possibly be both responsible and trustworthy enough to handle caring for an infant who may or may not be bio-weapon. The list of names was short. A select few who remained after everything. The ones who had seen it all. He had called all but one. Claire was unavailable, Jill on a mission, and Sherry unreachable (probably also due to responsibilities), one name was left … Leon. It wasn’t so much that Chris didn’t want to call Leon, it would just be easier if he didn’t have to. With a sigh he pressed the call button, the desperation of the moment overriding his avoidance.

Chris has to go on a mission while also responsible for Rosemary's care and Leon is the only one available to take care of her.

Summary
Chris speaks before Leon can protest this time. “Just- take it,” he says, “you don’t have to agree to anything, but take it with you. When you make it back to me you can give me your answer then.”
Leon stares at him for a long moment, then his fingers close over the ring and he nods. Chris lets out a breath. He doesn’t know if that means Leon really will try to fight through this for Chris, or if he’s just humoring him. It doesn’t matter either way. Just knowing he has it with him will be enough for now.
