Summary
Noelle is a vampire. It's perfectly treatable - a few days under observation, a course of antivirals sent in from the big city, and she'll be her normal vegetarian self again. The only catch? Seven years ago, Kris fled Hometown when the entity controlling their SOUL disappeared, leaving them with the consequences of its actions. “—I hurt you,” Susie finished. She chewed on the concept, the edges of her voice frantic, her throat thick. “Because you deserved it.”
“Yes.” Kris pressed her hands against their chest. They smiled in a way that failed to be reassuring. Each desperate breath shuddering through their lungs confirmed everything Susie didn't want to know. “S’fine. It’s okay.”
Kris burned like a charred pan straight out of the oven, or an oil fire stoked by liquor. Susie reeled away. “You—you were trying to set me up,” Susie accused, trying to edge words around the chasm opening in her gut. “You were trying to get me to hit you.”
Kris wants Susie to hurt them. They need her to hurt them. Susie isn't as on board with the idea as they are.
