At thirteen, Regulus Black had been painfully, humiliatingly in love with James Potter.

Regulus has the tendency to pick at the skin of his fingers until they bleed, even then he would carry on, the threat of red not doing anything to cease his actions. So, like any good friend, those he surrounds himself with act to put a stop to it. At least the attempt to.

Summary
When Sirius leaves to go on a trip for the christmas holidays with his boyfriend, it leaves James, for once in his life, left completely alone. During the break, he supposed there were a lot of things he could be doing- but instead he was rotting inside of his apartment, alone with his thoughts and the recent bubbling, deprecative feelings within him left after a recent break up.
His days are slow, his mind slower, and it's what has him taking one of his late night runs much later than he's planned, setting out beneath the stars.
What he does not expect- is to find a man on the bridge, overlooking the ways down below.
Or; James thinks it's fate that has him running late on his daily run and finding Regulus Black before he can jump, and Regulus does not think he has it in him to find a will to live until he is staying in a random man's apartment, hiding out from his parents.

Summary
An uneasy look passed between James and Remus, before their eyes were back on Regulus. The youngest took a deep breath to steady himself before speaking.
“I know how to bring Sirius back.”
The words brought forth the reaction he was expecting — which was an interruption. Despite his plea to let him get it all out, he’d know they wouldn’t be able to let him speak without saying something. They hadn’t last time, though he had been far less ready last time.
“You can’t bring him back,” James was no longer spinning his wand. “Because he’s dead. You can’t bring the dead back, you don’t want to — it’s unnatural. I told you that’s what he wanted to say, didn’t I, Moony? Didn’t I? Well pass me my winnings, I was right!”

Regulus Black knew that he was one of the last people any of the Marauders -- Especially James Potter -- would ever want to see again, seeing as one of the last times they were all together Sirius was killed. They didn't believe his gut feeling that Sirius wasn’t truly dead, because they had all been there together when he died. Now, holding a years worth of proof, he needs their help to get his brother back.

“Chatty and clingy today?” James chuckled as his hands lifted Regulus up, a small mreow escaping Regulus as he was unexpectedly lifted up. James placed him in his arms like a baby. Which was absolutely unacce- actually quite comfortable. He was going to allow it this once.
“Such a sweet little baby, you are,” James praised in a sweet voice and booped Regulus’ nose with a coo. Regulus simply continued purring at all the scratching and petting, leaving James to say whatever he wanted. If he wanted to boop his nose, he may. Regulus didn’t mind. This once.

Sirius is quiet for a long time.
Then, unexpectedly, he speaks. “Walburga used to read the myth of Icarus to me and Regulus when we were really young. I always thought it was amazing, even if he did die in the end. I bet while he was up there, flying, the rush was worth it.”
He smiles faintly.
“Regulus, though?” Sirius shakes his head. “It scared him. He could never understand why Icarus would have taken the risk and flown so close to the sun.”
Something about that settles heavily between them. James looks back at the tapestry. At the name that has somehow returned from the dead. Sirius lets out a quiet breath.
“Funny, isn't it?” He smiles, weakly. “That Regulus ended up making the same mistake?”
James offers him a close-lipped smile. It doesn't reach his eyes.
It's not funny at all. And they both know that. It doesn't matter, though.
James is going to find Regulus.

This story explores how it might have changed Regulus’ fate if the two of them had found each other and he hadn’t been alone.
