Summary
After Cas takes Sam's madness, Sam comes to realize the only thing that keeps him grounded is masochistic submission. Once Dean finds out, he offers to step in because the idea of Sam trusting strangers with that kind of vulnerability makes his blood run cold. Unfortunately, much of what they do together triggers flashbacks to Dean's time in Hell.
In the face of mounting external and internal pressures, Dean struggles to do right by Sam and keep the eroding boundaries of their relationship intact. What Dean doesn't know is that Sam has harboured some very unbrotherly feelings for Dean for a long time. As the fight with the leviathans continues, the brother's relationship slowly spirals ever deeper into dysfunction.

"The stars. It's been a very long time since I've had opportunity to observe the heavenly gyre."Dean straightens up and claps Cas on the shoulder to hide the pang in his chest.
"You, me, the Impala, Jose, and Pink Floyd." He grins at the angel. "It's a date."Cas's expression is torn between wistful and grateful. Dean keeps walking, ignoring how it makes him want to shrivel up and die that the smallest scrap of kindness can so affect his friend, who is literally older than dirt.

My name's Dean Winchester and I am a master of minding my own damn business. Too bad that makes everyone feel like they should have some say in mine. I stick to myself and got most things people need: good friends, good job, and a good lay on the regular. I can't put my finger on why every day seems so freakin' grey and the same. So, out of boredom or sheer stupidity, I gave into Gabe's whining and went to queer karaoke night at the punk bar. Let's just say that cop I saw earlier in the day, might've uh, changed things. A bit, yeah. Too bad from there on out my week's gone from kinda' bland to total shit-show.
Now, if only everyone would back the fuck off and stop insisting they know what I want better than I do, maybe I could make it to Monday without getting thrown in the nut-house!

He’s done this a hundred times. He’s driven down this road in the soft morning light, heading out to some little town in some distant corner of the country. This is a job like any other.

Fantasy AU. He soon finds himself a pawn of forces beyond his control, whether it be his superiors in Heaven (who order him to manipulate the Righteous Man and try to prevent him from reconciling with his brother) or his own attraction to both prisoners. Before long he knows that he must make a choice: between Heaven as he knows it and his Father's commandments, and between his orders and his heart.
