“My apologies,” says Kim Soleum, quiet. “I don’t see you in that way.”
Relief, oddly enough, blooms in Agent Choi’s gaze. He shifts back, his warm embrace falling from Kim Soleum’s shoulders- and promptly rips a clear plastic bag out from a jacket pocket. Kim Soleum blinks.
“Thanks,” Agent Choi says breezily, opening the bag with a crinkle- it’s a plastic zipper bag, resealable. The kind of bag they’d use to store items with potential contamination.
He hacks, a raspy guttural sound, and blood splatters into the bag- Kim Soleum jerks up like a rod.
“Agent?!”
Kim Soleum rejects Agent Choi. He doesn't expect him to start coughing up yellow tulips after.

I hadn't thought much of it when I left that Darkness. That little note with an asterisk at the bottom of the manual was an easy quirk to forget; so harmless that anyone who noticed would ignore it.
See, I had lived pretty comfortably as an alpha. Consistent, predictable ruts that could be tolerated by popping a few Advil. Not to mention, it was much easier to mess with Baek Saheon by asserting dominance with pheromones.
And well, the universe must've felt I had it too easy.

Summary
Choi struggles with how to mourn Kim Soleum, a liar, super-rookie, lover, and ghost.
In those moments, Choi was almost something more than an agent. Soleum was cruel, he thinks to himself as he passes by a group of coworkers on the way into the bureau, for teaching him that Choi was capable of all these other things besides putting his life on the line for civilians. Like desire, and grief, and love.
