Summary
Caitlyn held Vi’s face between her palms and looked at her.
She thought of the moment they’d met, the chance they’d both taken. The way they’d pushed and pulled and ended up trusting each other anyway. Reaching for each other in the quiet, searching for each other in the maelstrom. Finding their way back together after everything. After the unforgivable. After the unspeakable.
To say the words she truly felt would have been like punctuation to a sentence she never wanted to end. Their story, one that was only just beginning. A story she wasn’t ready to be over.

After meeting with Jayce and Mel, there's very little time left for Caitlyn and Vi to process how grim their situation truly is. Only one night. Maybe the last one they'll ever get.

Like a punch. Vi knows about punching. And she understands enough about talking.
She wants to know what’s got her all frustrated again, even if it means digging into something she doesn’t want to talk about, something she doesn’t feel comfortable enough mentioning to Vi.
Another shot goes off.
"You can tell me what's really bothering you," Vi says.
The grass between her fingers is wet and sticky as she waits for a response.
The third shot barely grazes the target.
In understanding Caitlyn, Vi faces some truths of her own.

Vi’s eyes shifted over to meet Cait’s in the mirror, but her partner’s one eye was focused solely on red hair, following her hand’s motions, before jumping up to take in the rest of the mop. Vi tilted her head down, hand moving to grab her toothbrush as she spat into the sink. “I need a haircut. I look like a wet mutt,” Vi assessed, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.
At that, Caitlyn twisted her head, finding Vi’s matter-of-fact gaze staring back at her. “Mm,” she voiced, two fingers pinching a lock of hair as she stepped into Vi’s space, smirk crawling onto her lips without her consent, really. “A sexy wet mutt,” she murmured, nipping at the crest of a freshly-cleaned ear, metal earrings clinking against her teeth, before kissing at Vi’s undercut.

Vi kisses Caitlyn. Devours her, takes from her what she needs, is content knowing Caitlyn has even more to give and internalizing how happy she is for Vi to take them all.
Vi kisses Caitlyn, kisses her until her breath stutters and her hands tremble as she lovingly strokes Vi’s chest.
Having mercy, Vi breaks the kiss.
Vi opens her eyes, and smiles.
Caitlyn looks like she's been laid out to be snacked on. Dilated pupils, glistening and swollen mouth, and her love crawling out of her chest with its teeth on Vi’s heart and its claws on Vi’s body.
Vi created this monster. Vi will enjoy dying by its hand too.

Summary
Vi moved through the house like a ghost. Restless and unsettled, a flash of dulled colour floating from room to room. A whisper that when Caitlyn turned her head, she would just be in time to catch the wisp of her turning a corner. For someone so broad and capable of explosive violence, she was surprisingly stealthy.
Healing takes many things: time, patience, and… space. Caitlyn’s trying to accommodate what she thinks Vi needs to heal after losing Jinx while utterly failing to consider what she needs. Too much space creates its own problems.

“Hey,” Vi said softly, her voice slurred just enough to betray her. “Didn’t mean to wake you.”
Caitlyn’s eyes flicked to the bandage at her side, then back to her face. Her reply came just as gently, a mirror of that same effort to keep things from unraveling. “You didn’t.”
Vi leaned against the doorframe, favoring one side. She gestured vaguely at herself, her mouth tugging into the shadow of a smile. “Looks worse than it is.”
A joke missing its punchline.
Caitlyn didn’t smile. She didn’t even blink.
She wanted to drag Vi to the mirror. Make her look. Make her see the woman Caitlyn had just watched stagger into their home. The blood. The bruises. The way she always seemed to walk the line between defiant and self-destructing, like she thought pain made her real.

A one-shot set after the war, after Caitlyn and Vi return to their roles as Enforcers — after a day that left them both gutted.

“Vi.” Caitlyn’s impossibly-gentle hands brush away her tears, and her impossibly-gentle voice leaves bruises under Vi’s eyes where she usually presses the heels of her hands to keep from crying when she feels the barely-repressed need. “Vi, hey, it’s alright, we’ll figure it out, we’ll–”
And then Vi realizes that, worse than crying, she’s apologizing. Her arms are wrapped around her body, right hand clasping left shoulder, left arm hugging her torso, and she’s bent over on the curb and she’s saying I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’msorryI’msorry
OR in the aftermath of the explosion Jinx caused, Vi grapples with the brutality of being a sister.
