Summary
As he stared down into the lumpy grey goop that was his evening rations, he contemplated whether it was really worth it.
They’d come a very long way just for Grace to give up and die at the last hurdle, both physically and emotionally. The Tau Ceti system was a long, long way away now, and Grace had faced not one but two highly emotional suicide missions. Three, if you counted the time before he was given a military grade roofie and hucked into space without his memories.
Rocky and Grace make it back to Erid! Huzzah!

Summary
Ryland Grace expected a lot of things to change when he decided to go back to Blip-A and save Rocky, but he had no idea things would get this complicated. Namely, this emotionally involved.

Ryland Grace will starve on his way to Erid without figuring out a new food source. In this universe, Rocky offers to help create a food Ryland can eat during their journey on the Hail Mary together by hybridizing Ryland's DNA with food from his planet. As a result, Ryland begins taking on... different traits. Traits that make it possible for him and Rocky (and eventually, Adrian) to get closer than any of them ever thought they would be while the three of them start a life together on Erid.

In this moment, from the second Marissa had told me during that fateful dinner about the Petrova line, the return of the ArcLight probe from Venus, through the whole Petrova task force, Stratts betrayal, the horrific first moments on the Hail Mary. Nearly dying a hundred times both from the planet Adrian and general space travel, my choice of saving Rocky instead of myself, abandoning all hope from ever seeing Earth again. Getting here half starved, working out how to survive a landscape that was inherently inhospitable for me, but right now. It was so fucking worth it.
The weight receded and I lunged after a breath, only to heave out more sobs, oh god i felt pathetic, and happy and everything. I couldn't talk, I couldn't breathe. All my grief, all my decisions, everything that led to this moment. “We did it Grace,” I heard Rocky, who was still half curled around me, “we saved Erid!”
They had a future.
And that meant that it was legitimate and unfaltering hope that Sol would be saved and Earth too. And that made me sob even harder.
