Summary
Wednesday has many, many skills. She is adept at most things, especially when it comes to agility or knowledge. Her own emotions.. significantly less so. Failure can be an excellent motivator, but embarrassment and the feeling of, well, failure has always been hard for her to cope with. Anger grows from the cracks of her defeat and watching eyes seem to pry at her soul, leaving her to need to find an outlet before she is consumed by her emotions. Perhaps a particularly colorful werewolf could help her de-stress.

She must have done something wrong—her posture or her eyebrows, perhaps—because the girl looked at Wednesday strangely, likely surprised. The girl had said something, but Wednesday failed to listen. She ignored her, feeling horribly fragile in her bones, and went quickly to bed. Even when she hid herself under her covers, pressed the heels of her palms to her ears, she could still hear the persistent sniffles of her roommate. The roommate was trying to stifle them, but she was failing miserably enough that Wednesday had to react. In the dark of the room, the colorless-colorful half-and-half splay of light flattened across the floor like ghosts stretched thin, Wednesday lifted her blankets off and planted her feet on the hardwood. The sniffles stopped immediately.
“Enid, I will take my typewriter to your head if I hear a single hiccup come from you again.”

It takes her two weeks to decide that this conversational pattern is less annoying and more refreshing than she originally anticipated. It's easy enough: Laudna talks, Imogen sometimes pipes up, Laudna listens raptly when she does, but never pressures her to respond. She speculates that this dissimilar communication style works because they've both been lonely for a bit too long. But where Imogen is a slowly melting glacier, Laudna is a massive crack in the ice, a splash in the arctic, shattering that frozen floe into pieces so small it has no time to thaw and no barriers left to protect itself.

He is gone and Yasha is back. If it were just that simple.
Turns out, a mind learning to be in full charge of its own body again is very overwhelming, especially when all Yasha wants to do is lose her consciousness to sleep and feel nothing, think nothing. Not think of the threat she’ll always pose to her friends, or the blood she isn’t sure she’s managed to fully scrub off her hands.
When it gets too much and Yasha has to get up and step outside, Beau follows her to make sure she’s not already running again. And maybe to get some things off her chest, because Yasha’s not the only one who couldn’t sleep.

Usually, people don’t have big familiars. This is probably because there are many more small or medium animals in nature than large ones. Having a familiar that is reasonably sized is a blessing in more ways than one. Attending to its needs is simple and affordable, you can have it with you everywhere, and last but not least, it makes social interactions way easier. Sure, having a bug that is likely to end up under someone’s shoe is not the best option. But having a cute little bunny rather than a intimidating massive alligator is convenient.
Yes, having an adorable small unthreatening animal as a familiar definitely makes one’s life easier.
So of course, fate would be as cruel as dooming Yasha Nydoorin with a familiar as uncommon and impractical as a wolf.

A flower that reminds her of Caduceus, a couple of buttons she finds for Nott. Somehow, Yasha finds she has an assortment of candies weighing her pockets, partly from market stalls and the other half from pastry shops they happen to dip into whenever Jester has a craving.
“Why do you always have these on you, Yasha?” Jester asks, munching on a caramel hard candy.
Yasha doesn’t mention the idle curiosity that plagues her in new cities, the meandering thought whenever they’re somewhere new. Would Jester like these? It influences her purchases more than she cares to admit.
