Summary
He could make up all the excuses to justify the fact that he hasn’t won. This is Vale’s home turf, his own private track, and he knows it far better than anyone else, knows how to push when the conditions are tricky, knows where to be gentler on the bike, where to drift harder. He could say Vale was lucky and he, on the contrary, wasn’t. But, in the end, it all comes down to one single, hard to swallow truth: Valentino was faster.
It’s not a matter of luck, it’s a matter of skills. And if there’s something Marc really can’t handle gracefully, that would be losing to someone because he lacks the skills to extract the full potential from a bike he hasn’t really gotten acquainted with yet.
“Here, some coffee. I come in peace.”Somewhere between a training session and a homemade dinner, Marc starts to slowly realize that not everything must always be about winning.

Summary
“No, but I’m serious. It feels…weird. Kinda wrong? I mean, it seems like only yesterday I was the next big thing and now…BAM! The paddock is brimming with kids and I’m old. How did you manage going on for so long?”
He turns slightly, cupping Valentino’s cheek, scratching his palm against his several days old stubble. He likes the sensation of it, the slight bite, Valentino’s face leaning in as his eyelids flutter closed for a moment, heavy breath caught between his teeth. Despite having lost all of his boyish features, he’s still delicate looking, almost womanly at times, when he smiles and he’s oh, so gentle and graceful. Marc doesn’t mind it, on the contrary. Age has refined Valentino’s beauty, given a melancholic quality to it. Retirement does really look good on him, it has plumped him up a little – he doesn’t look like a scarecrow anymore, and this new layer of protective fat on his stomach suits him nicely.Just a lazy morning between two people who have only recently started to get attuned to one another once again.

Summary
Max is generally a little stubborn, but every now again he’s capable of admitting when he’s made a mistake.
Like now.
He’s in his kitchen, stirring a cup of bland tea that he won’t drink, when he realises how pointless this all is. It’s been two days since Spain but he misses George like a lost limb and he suspects George may miss him too.
There’s no need to deprive themselves of something so good just because they’ve indulged in the softer side of things a little too much. After all, everything is good in moderation.
Or: Max and George start hooking up in Qatar. When the hate-sex turns to something softer Max isn’t quite sure how to feel about it.
