“What?” Oscar asks. “You’re not serious?”
“Um, yeah I am, mate,” Lando says. “C’mon. It’s not like we can erase the kiss from anyone’s mind or socials. And I don’t want Zak to think you’re like playing mind games with me. I mean, you’re not right?”
“No,” Oscar exclaims, shaking his head. “Of course not.”
“Then, we might as well just lean in, right?” Lando says. “You’d look crazy if we just pretended it was some weird accident.”
Well, Oscar probably is for kissing his teammate like that.

Oscar kisses Lando on the podium in front of the whole world. Which might be ok if they were dating. But they're not. Not even close. So now, they have to pretend to date to save both of their careers from Oscar's lapse in judgment. This means cute insta posts, joint interviews, the occasional public date, and shared hotel room.
It certainly doesn't mean exploring his newfound sexuality with his teammate. Or getting to know him on a deeper level. Or falling in love with him. All while leading the championship. Again.

Summary
Oscar carefully turns back to one of the mirrors that make up the sides of the elevator and sees that his side looks a lot more aggravated than it did just a half hour earlier. The previously fading yellow and purple have reverted back to their more vibrant shades they’d been a few weeks ago. They’re accompanied by more red inflammation.
“Shit,” he whispers under his breath.
“Yes! Shit is right! You’re coming to my room and I’m getting you ice right now,” Lando says exasperatedly just as the elevator reaches their floor.or
During a padel game, Oscar takes a serve to his broken rib and injures himself more. Lando finds him after and takes him back to his hotel room to take care of him.

He waves the beer can that he's been holding for God knows how long in Oscar's face.
" Fancy a beer?"
He almost makes a disgusted face. Almost.
" Nah, thanks mate. I'm good."
After some contemplation, the stranger tries to hand him a dollar bill.
Oscar looks at him, confused.
" I saw that man took your dollar before." He points. " That was really fucked up, man."
For the first time in two weeks, Oscar feels slightly amused.
" You mean the bus driver?"

Oscar flinched, Lando, finding a smirk forming against his lips, “Pardon?”
“Well, the idea of fucking you doesn’t really appease me,” Lando said honestly… semi-honestly. Okay, maybe a little white lie.

Oscar is perfect. He races with precision, lives in a perfect little bubble, at least that is what the press thinks, but Oscar is far from perfect; he is a constructed, meticulous mess, waiting for one more block to be misplaced before he crumbles.
Lando is a ruined F1 driver, once a star, now a shell of his former self. He is angry and tired. He spends his nights dancing for strangers; anything to keep himself afloat. He thinks life won’t get any better; he was wrong.

It should have been obvious from the emails alone. It was never quite right, something about the way the sender was writing felt off. Cryptic. But the people at McLaren were so eager about the huge opportunity: to have both of their drivers in a Calvin Klein campaign and show them off in their pants. Sex sells, or whatever, and with the amount of money they offered, both Lando and Oscar thought it was best to just shut their mouths and go along with it.
“It’s a little quiet, no? Whenever I’ve been to photoshoots, it was always a lot of commotion. Lots of people, too. Where do you think the crew parked?”
Lando looked back over his shoulder at the gravel driveway, empty, safe for the two McLarens. That was a good question, actually, where the hell was everybody?
