They’re as red as the blood that stains the floor beneath him, sharp and splintering. Wind whistles through the wood and stone, though there’s a flickering too - the sound of paper fluttering in the breeze.

“How long have you lived on the streets?” Wangji asks.
Xue Yang shrugs. “All my life, I think. I don’t remember anything else.”
Wangji tosses him the next meat bun. Xue Yang catches it easily – and he grins at Lan Wangji, wide and cheeky. Then, unexpectedly, “Why’re you talking to me?” he asks.
Lan Wangji blinks. “Why should I not?”
Xue Yang rolls his eyes, as if the answer is obvious. “No one else does. I’m a street rat. They’d rather I be dead.”

Summary
Jiang Cheng seethes, gripping the bridge of his nose. “I don’t know how to help you,” he admits, “so I’m sending you to the people that do.”
It nearly slips out then, the truth of the matter. Wei Wuxian opens his mouth to snap back ‘There’s no helping me, not now!’ but the words stick in his throat. Shijie is crying and Jiang Cheng is defiant and Lan Zhan is staring at him so earnestly that Wei Wuxian simply doesn’t know how to tell them all that he’s living on borrowed time.
So he doesn’t.

Only a few moments ago, Guanyin temple had been collapsing around him, rubble falling at his feet. Sizhui had frozen in the midst of it all, completely unmoored. He did nothing still when Senior Wei pressed close and smiled at him, blood dripping from the corners of his lips. It was a gory smile, all red teeth, and so obviously forced. “It’s okay, Sizhui,” he’d said. “You’ll be okay.”
And then a talisman was slammed into his diaphragm.

Lan Sizhui finds himself sixteen years in the past - before the ambush at Qiongqi Path, before the Bloodbath of Nightless City, before Lan Wangji's seclusion, and before Wei Wuxian's death.

Kintsugi: The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
He sighs, and it feels like there's a thousand years of exhaustion in it.
“I miss you,” he mumbles. Sasuke’s lips quirk into a little half-smile.
