    Summary

An unusually hot summer quickly escalates into the worst damn summer Peter has ever had, one out of five stars on yelp, zero out of ten dentists recommend. And he isn’t talking about it. Ever. Months later, during an unusually cold November, Tony and Happy are attempting to bond with the kid but don’t understand why the harder they try, the more Peter seems to be pulling away.
    -
Or: Four times something bad happens, and three times Peter opens up about it. Because he’ll never ever admit he accidentally broke Tony’s favorite mug.

ughhhh i think this might be my favorite bergen fic! of course i said that after the last one, and the one before that, but still. this was very very stressful to read, but i greatly appreciated the period of de-stress with may and pepper. hopefully as always, and a perfect way to end th e new year. here’s to new beginnings, de stressing, and talking about those things we promise to hold in forever.

    Summary

Peter never made any plans to run away, until the day he leaves. It isn’t an idea that slowly creeps up on him. He just stands over the sink one day in early spring, watching his father’s bright red ashtray bob up through the soap bubbles, and feels an overwhelming urge to get the hell out of this place.
Two years later. Tony Stark has been keeping his identity as Iron Man a secret, successfully hiding behind his spoiled, rich asshole persona. It’s isolating, but he doesn’t even like people anyway, so it’s fine, he’s fine, he’s great. And then he gets saddled with a new intern, who isn’t just hiding secrets: he’s barely holding it together.

“He has been waiting to feel safe, waiting to feel anything but worry. He often feels like a part of him is still that sixteen-year-old boy who just ran away, huddled between the pilasters of that movie theater, cheek resting on his knee. Waiting for someone to see him.”

perfect, unique, clever, heartwarming, bittersweet, lovely, inspiring. thank you, bergen for always somehow showing up even better than before.

    oh this is just beautiful.
harry’s trauma is expressed beautifully in this, with his fears of losing hermione and ron to change and the voice at the back of his head screaming “constant vigilance” and him disassociating for 7 years. i love draco in this. so cute <3

this was SO fun!!! i love this draco! this kind of draco is my all time favorite characterization of him. everyone seems to forget he’s dramatic and silly and just a big old drama queen. this is SO funny and i love the wizarding culture explored. i love harry’s growth. i love it all. i love ron and hermione and blaise in this. i love kreacher. i want to live in this fic. AMAZING!!!!! just put me in an amazing mood!

    reread june 5 2024

god why did i wait so long to reread this??? this is quite literally amazing, i’m sure the author must be a published author. the writing style compliments the story and the characters perfectly and i love this harry and draco so much. i love ron and hermione and pansy’s characterizations as well. god the writing was so gripping i literally held my breath at the action scenes. literally amazing!!!

this quote has stuck with me:
“When I was very very young, I used to think that I could make the Dursleys love me. By doing what I was told, or by working out what they approved of and making sure it happened. Cleaning the house more, getting up earlier to make them all breakfast, being as quiet and unobtrusive and agreeable as possible. None of it worked. They either didn’t notice, or did notice and demanded more. Better obedience, greater convenience. If I hadn’t realised that it wasn’t working, if I had — they would have suffocated every part of me. Even so, some version of me never made it out of that cupboard. Draco, I know that it’s not the same — it’s not the same at all — but sometimes a family betrays you first. Sometimes no matter what you do, you can’t — you just can’t make it work. And then the only thing you can do is get out. I don’t think Andromeda is a traitor. Or if she is, then all of them betrayed each other.”

    (slowburnisdonemasterfullyinthis. very mature characterization,very good)

(two to shore = he was able to drag 2 to shore hermione and draco, 2 walked the beach shore)

“He stares at her, eyes bright, and she smiles, holding as tightly as she can to the rhythm: one, two, three, four; one, two, three, four...

    She has to keep dancing.

She has to let him go.

She thought she already had, but like most ridiculous grown-up things, it doesn’t seem to be as easy as that.”

reading this right after just getting out of a long term relationship with a man i’ve known since i was 15 was very relatable and therapeutic. i really liked this depiction of ginny- it made her more realistic and fleshed out and was very refreshing. i really enjoyed it!
