Summary
No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.
Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.

Crowell stops mid-sentence, his mouth hanging open. “The others?”
Shane can see Ilya in his periphery, can imagine the shock on his face as he snaps it in Shane’s direction, but he ignores it. He’s starting to realize the enormity of what he’s about to say, but adrenaline is outweighing fear. It isn’t Shane’s decision-making brain in charge right now, it’s his hockey brain, and he can see the play without having to think about it, his body moving on instinct.
“The others,” he says again. “If you’re going to bench me and Rozanov, what about all the other players I’ve had sex with?”
In a moment of panic and fury over Crowell benching him and Ilya, Shane impulsively decides to tell him that he’s slept with other hockey players too. Little does he know what he's created.
