Summary
Before he could think about it, Ren took three long strides and closed the distance between them. Goro’s eyes widened, but he didn’t try and flee. They were chest to chest now. So close, yet not close enough. He wanted to crawl into his skin and settle in his bones. Make a home for himself in Goro’s organs; maybe then, he could understand him fully. Gritting his teeth, Ren tugged on his bangs. “Then tell me: why did you kiss me the last time we saw each other? A few months ago.” Silence. “Why?” he asked again, a hint of desperation creeping into his voice.
“I…” Goro’s mouth opened and closed. Eventually, he lowered his head.
“Don’t act like it was nothing. That–it was... intimate. Tender. You can’t make that up,” Ren finished, nearly pleading. His voice trembled as he spoke.
More silence.
A drunken kiss seven months ago ended with Ren heartbroken and bitter. Now, he was stuck trying to piece together the parts that Goro Akechi shattered. Unfortunately for him, Goro was coming to town for the summer... and staying with him. Fuck.

This week was rough for Goro as he had a lot of works and another boring case to take care of. He was on his way to LeBlanc to meet Ren. It had been a while since they had met, just the two of them.
Ren was alone, Morgana wasn't here for once. Everything was planned and Goro couldn't wait to get his cup of coffee and some time with his boyfriend. Except someone else was there.-
“What do you want me to do? Lock the door every time they show up? Ignore them until they get the hint and leave?”
“Maybe that’s exactly what you should do. Or better yet, I’ll leave and save you the trouble.”

Two sides of the same coin, both more similar to the other than they think, try to figure out how to move on. An unexpected encounter at the train station as Ren begins to return home leads them to the conclusion that they needed each other for more than just their destiny.

This has spoilers!!! Taking place at the end of the true ending, after taking down Maruki’s Palace, the cutscene views Akechi walking past through the train window. With some connecting the dots and a bit of stretching, I’ve given my still grieving brain an excuse to fawn over Shuake.
