“I’m so sorry,” Katara said again. Zuko nodded.
“I’m sorry too. And I’m sorry for what I did in Ba Sing Se. You have to know that.” An intensity had entered his expression, a desperation.
“I think I do now.” She inhaled deeply and the corners of her mouth turned upward, her chin rising as her chest lifted. She was feeling a mixture of things… pride, wonder, compassion… love. Love for the twists and turns of destiny which, while often painful, had a way of settling into correctness, into solid ground. Love for the injured Fire Nation boy who crawled his way out of treacherous hell into the shelter of her little family, who looked at her now with the love of a brother. She took his hands and squeezed.
“Zuko,” she said, “Welcome home.”

Summary
At eleven, Remus’s world was small. But in its confinement, it was marked by strangeness and by secrets. What was quotidian for him was the stuff of nightmares for others-- for more than half of his life, he spent one night a month under careful lock and key as his skin erupted and his bones broke themselves under force of cursed magic, rearranging into something ghastly and brutish, something bloodthirsty. The wolf.
Already his identity as a person of magical blood made him different, set him apart from most people, from his mother. But the wolf ensured that no one, not even witches and wizards, could accept him. He knew this in the instinctual way that a child knows who is safe and who is dangerous.

Summary
Sirius studied Remus’ face. He was curious what he thought of all of this, the only one of them who didn’t have a mark– theoretically– and the only one with a muggle parent. Muggles didn’t get marks, he knew. If Remus’ parents were soulmates, then they wouldn’t know it. He wondered if there was a way to tell, though. If they could just feel it, somehow, even without the help of some magical fate.
Because it seemed like something you would just know, just from being near someone, from being close enough to them, from being in the same space. Like their souls would attract like magnets or like water droplets traveling down a window, waiting to merge until the last moment when they realized they were on the same path, and then they’d become one.
Was that fate, Sirius wondered?
He realized Remus was staring back at him, his eyes puzzled and curious and warm.
Sirius looked away first and didn’t look back, pushing down something heavy and impossible in his chest.
