”You’re not making any sense, Thorin”, said Balin and got up from his chair, walking up to Thorin and making him halt his restless movements by putting a steady hand onto his shoulder. “Explain it to me, what did you see in the dream?”
”I saw… I saw the Shire. And I saw Bilbo”Or: Years after Bilbo left the Mountain, Thorin, who’s been hopelessly pining ever since, starts having dreams of him. While he’s dealing with dwarven court drama, the obsession with the dreams starts to consume him until he finds out they’re a lot more than what they seemed at first.

There are pests.
At first, Thorin thought one of his assistants was stealing from him. And that may have been why he was a bit harsher on them than what was deemed necessary. But one by one, the workers were replaced only for the goods to keep vanishing into thin air. It was driving him to madness. And when Thorin wasn’t at peace, everyone knew it. Summary
There are several things that the dwarves don't know about the hobbit that is traveling with them. Things that Bilbo is glad to let them find out for themselves along the way.
The first is that he's prepared for anything. His mother used to quiz him about what he'd do in any situation - from relatives to trolls - and Bilbo never disappointed her with his answers. Riding a pony all day gives him plenty of time to plan for everything.
The second is that he can throw a stone or any other small object hard enough to embed it several inches into a tree trunk. His accuracy is uncanny even by Shire standards. He's quite proud of it.
The third is that he doesn't actually say so many proverbs when at home but it seems to annoy the dwarves so he spends time thinking up all the ones he's heard before.
And last, hobbits scold like it is no one's business. The Dwarves he's traveling with really have no idea what will happen if they truly piss him off.

Summary
The hobbit's eyes grow wide in realization. In terror. But his panic is not directed at the fall or even the iron grip holding him aloft over the battlements. He feels his organs twist within him, changing.
Yavanna did not leave her hobbits defenseless, but the Price is high, and Bilbo's debt has come due.
