Summary
The memories of fear and hunger sweep through him. All of them are still within reach, though defanged. The rough-hewn hardwood of the floor is lessened, too—Henry can hardly feel it through his chausses. Light pours through the window in a thick beam, illuminating even the dust in the air. Hans shines, too, slipping free of his pourpoint. Bare and bloody before him, looking at him, seeing him.
After the siege on Suchdol breaks, Henry and Hans reunite away from the crowd.
