"Huh. Weird," Will says softly to himself when he crouches down and touches the handlebars.
"What's weird?" Mike asks, hoping there isn't a nervous edge to it. But there's a hint of pink on Will's face and he suddenly doesn't seem so eager to meet his eyes, smiling avoidantly.
"I — I — I know where we are," Will's hand comes to the back of his neck, rubbing nervously. He seems upset and surprised in the same breath, "It's just — Vecna's never used this memory of mine before."

Mike’s fingers curl slightly into Will’s jacket, instinctive and protective. “I’ll stay with him,” Mike says immediately, not even looking at Hopper this time. “The whole time.”
El nods. She doesn’t question it, like she knows that’s where he’s always been meant to be. Will exhales slowly, then looks at Mike. “You don’t have to—” he starts.
“I know,” Mike says quietly. “But I want to.”
or; Mike stays with Will in the Upside Down as the group splits, and when Will faces danger in the church where they're hiding, Mike realizes this is his final chance to bring Will back.

Summary
His brain finally catches up with Mike’s words, and Mike is saying things like, “C’mon, Will—you can do it,” and “I’m so proud of you,” and “Don’t rush, it’s okay.” In the softest tone imaginable, and if Will maybe pretends to still be a little more out of it than he actually is just to keep hearing Mike talk to him like that—well, that’s his business.

Mike opens his eyes against the water droplets hanging off his eyelashes. Will hasn't stopped walking away from him, and he’s far enough now that Mike can no longer really see the details of his jacket. The rain feels like needles against his skin, and a frustration builds in his gut. Mike can't stand this anymore.
He breaks off into a run.

Heart in his throat, Mike quickly nods. “I’m here. This isn’t a vision from him. I’m here because you saved me, Will. I’m here because of you.”
Or, we follow Mike and Will directly after 5x04 as they come to terms with their feelings for each other.
