“Hey,” Airi manages, voice still thick with sleep. Her throat hurts, too – probably more from shouting than from injury, if she had to guess. “Not dead, I guess?”

“Um, Hinomori—” Shizuku’s grip on Mafuyu’s hand loosens, “…did I forget a promise to eat with you, today?”
Her memory is normally adequate – but she has slipped this week; misjudged deadlines for homework, left the house without her umbrella on a day it was meant to rain. It’s not out of the pale, to think she’d forgotten.
Shizuku’s face crinkles at the edges, as she smiles, gently, and traps the hand she’s already holding with both her own.
“No, not at all,” she says, “I just thought you might need a rescue."
In which Mafuyu fails to realize her own fondness.
