Summary
When Jack Benjamin took over after his father's near-assassination, he thought he was, you know, taking over. Instead, he's been used as a puppet by a warmonger (again), realized that said warmonger has everything he could possibly need to politically destroy Jack if he doesn't comply (again), and is once again seeing that he royally screwed everything up and needs to fix this if he doesn't want to watch his country burn. Lucky for him, David Shepherd was too stubborn to cut his losses and bail on Jack because he wants to save Gilboa too...and he'd make a perfect king. Jack just needs to get them out of Shiloh in one piece, pull off a second coup, dial back that reflex to shoot something every time he thinks of how stupidly perfect David is for kingship, and try not to screw or murder David (also known as his sister's perfect, straight boyfriend...and God's chosen king). What could possibly go wrong?
The Kings fix-it where Jack Benjamin and plenty of other characters are way more useful than they were in canon, where David Shepherd is actually not perfect, straight, or Michelle's boyfriend, and where Jack is so sick of all these Emotions and has absolutely nowhere to go with them.
