“Evening, Your Majesty,” Sunghoon said, bowing slightly. He’d been lying to himself since he stepped foot in the palace. He thought he could pretend that he wasn’t drawn to the King—that even his aloof personality would turn him away and sour him. And it did. There was no doubt that tears stung his eyes when the King proposed they live separately and that they do not interact outside of royal duties; that after being plucked from his home, his family, and his friends like a rose from a garden he would stumble upon a King that would sweep him off his feet and treat him like a Queen. He was wrong. But that didn’t change how he shivered under Heeseung’s dark gaze. Didn’t shield the want. Didn’t make him not want to bite an apple from the Tree of Temptation. Didn’t change the way his thighs pressed together under his robe and the mere thought of the King’s hands on his body. He hated himself for it, for wanting someone who clearly didn’t care for him.
“Sunghoon,” Heeseung responded, voice low and rough. “Do not mistake this for anything else. This is our duty, nothing more, nothing less.”
