Summary
After Caingorn, Jaskier retreats to Oxenfurt to mourn his losses and reconcile with the changed fate of his future. Reports of Geralt’s disappearance coinciding with the Battle of Sodden Hill leads him to believe that he is among the deceased - which, for Jaskier, is both an even crueler heartache and a strange form of relief. Yet when he returns to life as a travelling bard, his world is again turned upside-down. Upon discovering that his former companion lives, he spirals down a dangerous path that leaves him wielding power beyond anything he could formerly comprehend.

It is now or never, Jaskier tells himself - at one point, he had always said he would wait. He could wait longer, keep putting it off, but then what? He would end up waiting until some dire moment, and then Geralt would fall into one of his moods, and they would both end up fighting and parting on a bad note - likely not seeing each other again for far too long of a stretch of time.
That is the last thing Jaskier wants. He breaks the silence.Or, Jaskier doesn't wait until Caingorn to talk to Geralt about how he feels. It goes much better this time.
