Summary
They did it. They graduated. Sure, Hawkins is recovering (poorly) from an interdimensional monster attack and his girlfriend just died, but whatever. They graduated, and Mike Wheeler is just as happy about it as everyone else.
Except for Will Byers. Will seems about as happy as a runover puppy, and Mike makes it his summer mission to stop being such a shitty friend and give Will the best summer of his life. And if he can't do that, well--if they're going to be sad, then they can be sad together.
Cue Mike Wheeler attempting to use his emerging writing talents to give Will the D&D literary adaptation of his dreams, only to have his pen "slip" and write something a little... controversial.
OR
Mike writes Cleradin fanfiction (definitely by accident) and Will reads it (definitely not by accident).

“It’s not my fault that it took me so long to figure myself out,” Mike says thickly, no longer angry, instead just barely holding back tears as he repeats the sentiment that Debbie has spent so long trying to get him to believe. He’s not sure why this is the thing pushing him towards accepting it as truth, but he means it when he says it—means it, too, when he continues with, “It’s not my fault that it was hard for me to understand how I felt. It’s not my fault that I didn’t realize what it was until after you moved on. That’s not—that’s not my fault, Will.”

Will just looks at him and then gets up, sobbing so hard that he can barely say the “Bye, Mike,” as he walks away. He’s gaining speed as he goes down the hill, running off. To Jonathan, to New York, to being happy.
