Squeezing herself into the corner of what she assumed was a linen closet, its faint mothball scent clinging to the stale air, Rose fumbled blindly for her mobile. Cramped and dark, it wasn’t much of a hiding spot, but it was better than being out there with prowlers and party-goers. Her hands shook as she pressed the home key, the screen dimly illuminating the closet. She needed to find the Doctor—needed him now.
The door slammed open before she could type a single word. Her breath caught, her stomach lurching as light poured in. But there he was—scandalously tight blue suit, Venetian mask, and an energy that filled the small space almost as much as he did. Relief flickered through her, but her grip on her mobile stayed tight.
“Where the hell have you—” she started, but her words faltered as she caught the faint smell of smoke clinging to him. What had he set on fire this time?
And then he leaned in, his lips crashing against hers in a kiss that stole the breath right out of her lungs.

Summary
Legolas can fight if provoked, negotiate if absolutely necessary, and open up to close friends. But ask him to interact on a friendly but distant level, and he turns into a nervous wreck. When Elrond asks him to join the Fellowship of the Ring, he is far less anxious about the enemies they will have to face than about the eight companions with whom he will be traveling.
Gimli is fully ready to reach out a hand in friendship to the elf in their group – until he perceives that Legolas is not ready to return the favor. He spends the early days of their Quest seething with resentment.
Their stay in Lothlorien opens the door to new understanding between them, leading to a friendship – or more – that will be sung of for ages.

Summary
It's 1932, and a rogue horde of emus is sweeping through Western Australia's wheatbelt. A military unit is called in to deal with the problem, led by Major Edward Teach, expert Lewis gunner.
Meanwhile unconventional farmer Stede Bonnet has his own (secret) mission: to save as many of the birds as he can.
They should find themselves on opposite sides of this war, but Ed's bored out of his skull and Stede's fucking fascinating. Turns out they've got more in common than not. Along with the eccentric crew of Stede's Revenge farm, they'll find a way to win--together.
