For the better part of two hours, Hydra had delighted in torturing Bucky in front of him, strapping him down and securing that fucking metal ring over his head, bruising, beating, and bloodying him while Steve remained powerless to stop it. Bucky’s screams rang in his ears, all the louder for their soul-crushing silence. Steve’s gaze traveled from the vacant chair to the blood trailing across the floor, disappearing beneath the metal door. Another rivulet of his own blood trickled from his hairline and down the side of his face.
“Captain. How nice of you to join us.”
Steve raised his head, blood thick and salty at the edges of his lips. He spat at the handler, fantasizing about the moment he got free and beat that smirk off the man’s face. Better: he’d shove him in the cryotube, set it to freeze, then shatter the glass, watching him slowly suffocate.
Yeah, that’d be real nice.

And then he found the postcard sitting at the bottom of the pile.
Clint had taken to sending them two years ago, after the Hydra Incident, a sign that he was still alive while on long-term missions. He never scribbled anything more than their address, but something about this card made Steve uneasy.
It bore a weeping angel, her patina blackened by weathering to look like tears, her sword held before her. She looked far more horrific than melancholy.
“Oh.”
Before Steve could say anything else or look for a message, Natasha snatched the card away, face pale as she turned it over in her hands. Her voice shook, too quiet. “No, no, no. What the fuck are you doing, Barton? Why did you send this here?”
Bucky leaned over the counter, his brow furrowed. “Natalia, what is it?”
“A goodbye,” Natasha said, deflating. Steve had seen Nat in many facets: ram-rod straight determination, relaxed and laughing, casually defiant, but this . . .this was the first he’d seen her scared. “That card, that image, isn’t a token. It’s a cry for help. To save him because he can’t save himself.”
“A Hail Mary,” Bucky added, and Natasha nodded.

Between heartbeats, Clint tensed, and Bucky’s metal fingers pressed slightly harder between his friend’s ribs. He narrowed his eyes at a street sign as if he had no idea where they were. “You see ‘em, too?”
“Yeah. Two, opposite side of the street. Another two behind.”
“Fucking hell. How long?”
“They’ve been tailing us since the coffee shop.”
He kept his eye on the two across the street, which meant he missed the person who ran right into him. Fucking New York foot traffic. He hadn’t intended to stop—collisions were normal, people stared at him all the time, it was kinda part of the deal—but when he turned to look at the guy, Bucky noticed instead the taller, black-clad figure beside him, motionless, watching. The coffee cup slipped from his hand.
“Oh, fuck.”

Summary
Bucky Barnes was Steve Rogers' Dom since they were teens. But then the War came and Bucky fell, and the Red Room and then Hydra destroyed his protective instincts along with his memory.
Now Bucky's returned, but he's far from healed. He can barely stand to be in the same room as Steve, let alone make Steve his sub again. With no one to take him in hand, Steve is spiraling out of control, losing himself to desperation and despair.
Clint Barton can't stand to see his friends suffering, and comes up with a plan to fix it: he'll act as Bucky's sub, until Bucky's able to be a Dom again. Then Bucky can take Steve back.
It's not the worst idea Clint's ever had, but that doesn't mean it won't end in disaster anyway.

"Wow, dude, this thing is awesome. Does it generate its own electricity?" Peter flipped the hammer once in the air and caught it, watching in amazement as sparks danced over it. "Like, I know you're the god of thunder, but I didn't know your hammer had magic powers too! That is so cool. I want one. Like, I won't get it, obviously, 'cause I don't want to steal your thunder—no pun intended.”
He grinned at his totally-intended pun, but Thor didn't react. Not even a twitch of the lips.
“Okay, yeah, that was a dumb joke,” Peter admitted. “Sorry. Here's your hammer, Mr. Thor.” He held out the weapon to its rightful owner.
Thor just stared.
