Summary
Buck tries to commit the frame to memory, wills himself not to forget the important details—Eddie on his knees in front of him, his nails seeking purchase along Buck's thighs as he drinks him down, his drawn-out gasps when Buck returns the favor.
After, when Buck reaches out for quiet confirmation in the dark, asks him, "Good?"
Eddie tells him, earnest and hard-won, "Everything is good with you," and Buck can bask in the illusion of a world where he almost believes it.
Buck is trying to leave the past where it belongs. Then he wins an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy, convinces Eddie to join him, and falls headfirst into (not so) casual sex with his best friend.

Summary
“You don’t have to,” Buck says quickly. “You could just leave it. Don’t look.”
Eddie glances up at him, and they both know without saying it that he isn’t going to let this go.
There’s no way he can look away now, not after seeing the way Buck reacted.
“Or maybe just not now,” Buck says softly, stepping closer, his hand settling gently over the screen like he can shield Eddie from what’s on it. “Maybe leave it for now. You’re not… Eddie, you’re not doing well right now. I’ve been so worried about you and this—” his voice catches, “—you… Eddie, please don’t. Just leave it.”
It stings to hear the worry out loud, even if he knew it was there.
He wants to do what Buck says, he wants to trust his friend and give him what he’s asking.
Buck never asks for anything.
Eddie moves Buck’s hand aside gently, giving it a brief squeeze. “Can’t do that, Buck.”
Or; After Christopher leaves for El Paso, Buck decides that he and Eddie should trace their family trees to keep Eddie’s mind occupied elsewhere. The results lead Eddie to face a family secret.

Summary
“Promise me you won’t have a panic attack like you did with Ana at the suit store?”
Eddie was about to object, to defend himself against the jab, but shut his mouth instantly when he saw how serious Chris’s expression had become.
“I can’t promise anything, but I’ll try to stay calm.”
Chris hesitated for a few seconds; Eddie could see it in his eyes, in the way his son’s hands moved, visibly nervous.
It wasn’t until Chris placed a hand on his shoulder that Eddie knew whatever was coming next was significant. That was Chris’s way of validating his words, of anchoring them in truth when speaking to someone. A gesture he mostly used with the teenager standing before him or with Buck.
“Okay, I’ll just say it,” Chris said, tightening his grip. “Don’t you think there’s someone in your life who checks every box to be your unconditional love?”
or;
the fic where Eddie uses a theory Buck told him about to help his son, and it ends up helping him realize his own feelings.

Summary
“Which do you think makes you feel most loved?”
Eddie thought for a long moment. Too long, maybe. Then he shrugged, “Honestly, Buck? I have no idea.”
Buck’s brows pinched up. “What do you mean? When have you felt the most loved?”
“Don’t make a big thing of this, Buck. Promise?”
Buck made a show of crossing his heart, brows still raised curiously.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever… really felt loved in a relationship? I’m not convinced that I know what makes me feel loved…”
OR -
After finding out that Eddie doesn't know what his love language is, Buck sets about finding out for him. He begins a five week experiment, one for each love language, to figure out which will make Eddie feel the most loved.

Summary
Silly questions were more often than not fielded in the firehouse. There—restless in the bunkroom, in the quiet between calls—it was free reign, and Eddie was happily accustomed to it. Seven years of questions in, there was really no moment of downtime that Eddie didn’t expect Buck to break with some speculative scenario or would-you-rather.
“Who do you think would win in a fight: me or Athena?”
“Buck, she has a gun.”
