Aizawa doesn’t look happy. Lord, he doesn’t look happy at all. Any evidence of fatigue and façade has been swiped from his face completely—Replaced by a pin-pricked annoyance; One no doubt caused by Shouto. His jaw is clenched, the muscles move too tightly, and Todoroki can almost swear that he sees a vein pop from his teacher’s forehead.
But, something else is there, too. Something boiling. Something akin to question, akin to suspicion, akin to circumstance. Skepticism licks at the corners of Aizawa’s dry lips, the fingers on top of his arms twitch with a beholden urge. An inquiry is in the cards for Shouto.
First, though—
“Todoroki.” Aizawa’s voice sounds like a knife. Shouto braces for the cut. “Do you want to explain why the right side of my classroom looks like a winter wonderland?”

He notices all these things, the minute details, the discarded crimson soaked bandages on the floor, his suture kit that’s strewn across the room, heavy breathing and shaky hands, before his mind allows him to piece it all together.
His knife clatters to the ground.

After Yanqing's consecutive failures to serve the Xianzhou, it's made clear that his place by the General isn't guaranteed at all— he has to fight for his right to stay Lieutenant and to remain by Jing Yuan's side. The cost of failure? Being kicked out from Jing Yuan's home and being demoted to Private: destroying every sacrifice he's made for this role.
To make it worse, there's more behind the competition than meets the eye, and it has to do with the fact that Jing Yuan is given the unfortunate ability to read Yanqing's mind.
OR: Jing Yuan and Yanqing know exactly where they stand with each other, but hope blurs the line.
