Vampires rule with an iron fist. Witches cannot perform magic without fear of death. Werewolves have been cursed to the shadowy swamps of the bayou where they are further away from humanity than they’ve ever been before.
But the city’s complicated web won’t be unraveled so easily, and none will be spared from wrath’s rapture. Not even the unborn miracle baby you carry.

08/22/2022: This fic has officially been discontinued. I've struggled for the past 6 years to try to pick it back up again, but so much of this fic reflected the relationship I was in at the time. When I made the choice to move on from that relationship for my health, this was a casualty of that. I apologize sincerely for those that enjoyed this fic and hoped I'd return to it some day.

It is the only reason Wu Fan agrees to his father's ridiculous idea in the first place. It is the only thing that keeps him rooted in his seat, keeps his tongue still in his mouth as he bites it to hold back the words of protest that yearn to escape.
It is this thought, and this thought alone, that has kept Wu Fan in his rightful place where he belongs. As the son of a Minister, it is his duty to learn the tricks of the trade and to follow in his father's footsteps.
This, he supposes, is just another step forward in that direction. It is necessary.
