    “You’ve never liked girls,” Linhardt said. His voice was still just as calm and matter-of-fact as usual, but he spoke slower, like he was confused at Caspar’s confusion.

    The library felt stuffier than ever, the sunlight and the old books more oppressive than they were just moments ago. Caspar felt sweat on the back of his neck as he stared at Linhardt, wide-eyed, processing that.

    “I didn’t mean to upset you,” Linhardt said after another moment of pause, his lips downturned into a frown. “I thought you must know that.”

    Before the battle at Myrddin, Sylvain had tightened the saddle of his mare and looked at Felix, and he thought, if we both get through this day alive, I’ll tell him.
    Now, the black blood was almost to his knee. All Sylvain could hear was the deep, blue silence of the forest.
