Summary
Lan Wangji wasn't privy to the conversations that took place among Yiling staff, but there was always an apologetic, tense edge to the tech's voice when someone else took over his missions. As if Wei Ying had put the fear of God into them if they let anything happen to Lan Wangji when Wei Ying was not personally available to oversee him.
"Something like that," Mianmian told him. "Anyway, it's not like there's anything for either of you to be jealous over. None of the other agents prefer him."

Summary
The old woman looks at Lan Zhan. "What's his name?"
Lan Zhan looks down at the man's pale, slack face, and presses his own hand against the cut, trying to staunch the blood flow with his glove. "Wei Ying," he says without thinking about it.
The man stirs slightly in his arms, his eyes blinking open for a moment. "Oh," he says faintly. "It's you."
Lan Zhan stares down at him, the stranger in his arms, whose name is Wei Ying. Which is something Lan Zhan knows. How does he know that? How does—he can't—this isn't—
"It's okay," Wei Ying says, reaching up to pat vaguely at Lan Zhan's face. "It's all—" His eyes slip closed again and he's limp in Lan Zhan's arms.

“He smiles too much,” Lan Wangji says, frowning at the pixelated headshot of the instructor. Flippancy is not necessarily forbidden, but it is strongly discouraged, especially when one is a thousand feet above ground instructing the light of someone else’s life.
Lan Sizhui is going for his Sword Flight Licence. Lan Wangji is panicked.

Summary
Lan Huan scrolls through Wei Ying’s profile, and the gentle tap of his finger against the screen shudders through Lan Zhan like the screech of a misplayed note. His whole body is tense, and he exhales slowly, working to unclench his jaw by degrees.
“It says here,” Lan Huan says with characteristic good humour, “that he’s looking for fun.” He nudges Lan Zhan with the tip of his toe. “You could do with some fun in your life.”
Lan Zhan could do with a new brother. “No,” he says, shifting out of Lan Huan’s range. “Thank you.”
---
When his brother creates a dating profile for him, Lan Zhan doesn't expect to match with the most obnoxious vendor at the Farmers' Market. Wei Ying is looking for fun, Lan Zhan wants out of this mess, and Lan Huan just wants his brother to be happy.

Summary
“So,” says Jiang Cheng. “You’re in love with Hanguang-jun, and now you think your roommate is hot.”
“Lan Zhan is objectively good looking,” Wei Wuxian says immediately. He runs through the rest of the accusation in his head and frowns. “And I’m not in love with Hanguang-jun.”
Jiang Cheng’s eyebrow ticks. “Yeah right,” he says. “Tell me that once you’ve stopped flirting with him every time you’re assigned to the same hit.”
While Yiling Laozu and Hanguang-jun are rivals as assassins, Wei Wuxian falls in love with his roommate, Lan Wangji.

Summary
Lan Wangji’s heart stopped, then all of a sudden it was beating too fast. There were only four lines. Far shorter than anything Wei Ying had written even on his most boring of days. Four lines and each one stabbed Lan Wangji like a knife had manifested with each word.
Help.
Cursed.
Outside Lanling.
Wei Ying.
It took all of that renowned Lan strength to not crumple the letter. Instead, using precise and deliberate movements, he rolled it back up and tied it off with the ribbon once more. He set it delicately back onto the table and took several deep breaths. Then he took several more.
A new crack appeared in the table.
----
Wei Ying shook his head. "I had to move, to stay awake and- and figure it out. Couldn't sleep. He gets you in your sleep."
Lan Wangji didn’t miss the way Jin Rulan paled.
"It- it infects. Spreads. Stay away from people. Keep them safe."
OR
A letter comes and Lan Wangji must find Wei Ying and help save him from the ghost that uses nightmares to torture him in his sleep.

Summary
“I don’t think I’m going to be around much during the discussions,” Wei Ying says once they finish eating. He lounges with his back against the bedframe, sitting on a pillow with one of his legs bent at the knee, a jar of wine in his loose grip. “It’s not really my kind of thing, you know? It’s not like I’m involved in sect politics, either, so I’m sure no one would miss me.”
Lan Wangji attends a discussion conference in Yunmeng with his husband. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng attempt once more to put the past behind them.

Summary
“What do you think about,” Wei Ying said aloud, before she could stop herself, before she could even think twice about the repercussions. “When you.” She finally found Lan Zhan’s eyes, molten in the low light, and swallowed in a tiny, audible gulp. “You know.”
On Wei Ying, Lan Zhan’s gaze didn’t waver even a fraction.
“Giving head,” she said.
Wei Ying was certain she’d misheard. “Getting head?”
“No,” said Lan Zhan.
—
After a surprise party gone awry, Wei Ying surprises herself.

Summary
Lan Zhan was not interested in sex or romantic relationships. He had watched with a dismissive glance as his classmates made fools of themselves and wasted a considerable amount of time and energy on various hook-ups and romantic entanglements.
Aside from the fact that his lack of sexual interest kept him laser focused on his school and research, Lan Zhan’s reason for it was based on something more fundamental. He did not enjoy the company of most people fully clothed, and he couldn’t really imagine that improving if they were naked.
Which was why he found himself shocked at the visceral image that slammed through his system of grabbing Wei Ying by his messy ponytail, forcing him to his knees, and fucking his mouth until he cried.

This man did not become a monster with gladness.
;
Darkness and light, fear and promise, loneliness and belonging: Lan Wangji stumbles across a crumbling castle in the mountains, and discovers that the balance is never as even as it seems.
