Summary
Cecilia feels it hit her like a truck: a rush of heat to her face, her neck, her ears. Her whole body goes tense, her hand still curled tight around Gigi’s wrist like it might be the only thing tethering her to the planet.

Summary
Her soulmate's name is Gigi and she is new. Brand new. Bright and bumbling. Fresh and soft. Fragile in that first-life way that makes Cecilia feel like a monster for simply existing beside her.

Summary
Cecilia looks away because she is, as a rule, aggressively gay in a manner she has tattooed under her ribs, and because if she looks straight at Gigi while she’s being kind to a cat she will do something dramatic and inappropriate, like smile.

Summary
Gigi made sure she was already at her desk at 5:41, shutting her laptop and smoothing her dark slacks with one hand. The fabric was new—charcoal gray, fitted at the waist, cut just sharp enough to whisper money and power. She’d chosen them deliberately this morning. Slacks for slacks. No skirt. No stockings. No undercurrent of “little boss’s daughter.” She wanted to stand in that elevator as her equal—or rather, on her knees, but as an equal kneeling.

Summary
Gigi squinted through the sting in her eyes. The voice belonged to someone crouching beside her. A woman. No—an EMT, judging by the navy-blue uniform and the patches sewn into the sleeves. The sun caught on her short, messy blonde hair, chopped just around her neck, and those eyes—those eyes were so green it was almost unfair. Sharp, serious, and directed squarely at Gigi.
“Am I dead?” Gigi croaked, lips dry.

Summary
“Do you have something to say?” Gigi asks, her voice sharp enough to cut through the quiet.
Cecilia doesn’t flinch. Her hands remain clasped in front of her. “Nothing you don’t already know, Miss Gigi.”
Gigi’s lips twitch into a humourless smile. “If that’s the case, maybe you should stop staring.”
Cecilia doesn’t look away, but there’s something softer in her gaze now, something that brushes against the walls Gigi has so carefully built. “Forgive me,” Cecilia says, her voice low. “It’s been some time.”
The words strike a chord, but Gigi refuses to acknowledge it. She presses her fingers down on the keys, a dissonant clash of notes breaking the moment. “Seven years isn’t just some time,” she mutters.
Or, the Immergreens have served the Murin family for centuries. But when Cecilia returns to the estate after her father dies, Gigi is less than pleased.
