Summary
Neil Josten has worked his ass off for thirteen years to be a good figure skater and he has nothing to show for it. He’s never won a competition, never even landed a jump properly in front of judges. He’s on the verge of giving up. When Kevin Day sustains a career ending injury and shows up with a ridiculous proposition to coach Neil, suddenly the door to everything Neil has ever wanted opens up. There was something about the apartment building roof at night that always helped Andrew clear his head. Whether it was his brother annoying the shit out of him or Kevin being frustrating as always, whatever issues were going through his head before he went up were almost certainly better when he came back down. It was nice to have his own space up there to smoke and to think things through.

They grew up together in this courtyard, played in the sand and rode the slide. They went to school together, walking each day side by side the five blocks to elementary school, rode their bikes together when they started junior high. They spent countless hours in each others rooms, playing video games or just talking. They shared secrets, dreams and fears while sitting on those swings, and whenever Yuuri was sad or overthinking, Victor could always find him on top of the slide, face tipped to the sky. No matter the weather, this is where he always sat.
It’s where Victor finds him now.
