“I’m very familiar with your ego. Tell me anyway. Unless you’d rather discuss this with Sirius or Remus. Or anyone really. You need to talk to us.” Regulus frowns at his still moving hands so he quickly places them on the table.
“I-’ James bites his lip. ‘Why are you touching me?” Is what comes out.
Regulus leans back with a flash of hurt. “I can move.”
“No I mean- you don’t like touching me so why are you touching me now?”
Regulus tilts his head and James waits patiently for him to sort his thoughts. Regulus slowly reaches out and grabs his hand then puts it on his own hip. Immediately James feels him tense and Regulus lasts a second then pushes his hand away.
“Oh. Sorry.’ Regulus fidgets with his rings, still in his lap. ‘I didn’t realise I did that.”
“You don’t.’ He clears his throat and adverts his eyes. ‘At least not for Sirius or your friends.”

“And then I wanted to beat up a player because he bumped into you and hurt you during the match.” His heart swells in his chest at James’ delighted expression. “I would have, if Evan hadn’t stopped me in time. I don’t think giving him a red card would’ve been enough for me.”
James grins so brightly that he puts the sun to shame.
“Aw, Reg, you love me.” The idiot sing-songs.
In return, Regulus rolls his eyes and looks down at the wedding ring on his finger for a split second before returning his attention to James again. “No, I don’t.”
(or, a universe, where football player James and referee Regulus are secretly married but the secret comes out when James suddenly gets hurt during the semi-finals of the World Cup.)

He falls to his knees, just barely catching the glass before it shatters against the floor, and quickly waves his wand to mop up the alcohol. “Shit, I’m sorry,” he pleads. When his gaze drifts up, James nearly gasps in shock.
Or, in keeping up with the pureblood traditions, James goes to a dinner hosted by the Black family. He expects to enjoy some company, make some good business deals, maybe get drunk. What he doesn't expect is to find himself hidden away with the Black heir herself. Except... well, something's not quite right.
