Summary
Dean Winchester has spent his whole life cleaning up his father's messes. Now that his little brother, Sam, is settled in California and Bobby's got a handle on the garage, they convinced Dean to finally do something for himself. After a chance encounter at the Air Force recruitment fair Sam dragged him to, Dean got hooked on air traffic control, and he gets stationed at Kansas City Tower for his final leg of training. There, he has to impress his on-job instructor Castiel Novak, the ex-Air Force captain who piqued his interest in ATC in the first place. (And only in ATC. He swears. Those blue eyes and dark hair and stupid hat have nothing to do with it.) If all that wasn't hard enough, just one week into his OJT, Dean gets a call telling him his father is dying and has to move back home to live out his final days-which could be more like years.
Dean has to decide whether to continue to let his life be defined by his father's mistakes and his misguided obligation to everyone else, or if he's brave enough-and strong enough-to find a life in his own shape.

“This is stupid.”
“Ray, it’s quite typical for the police to do crowd control work.” Fraser stood beside Ray in his bright red serge. They couldn’t be undercover even if they wanted to. “You usually enjoy the mundanity. For a while, anyway.”
“I know that,” Ray snapped. He wore an old hoodie over his favourite Chicago Bulls t-shirt, fading with age, to hide his holster. “It’s not the crowd control, it’s what the crowd is. . .” He waved a hand at the people gathered on the sidewalk. “You know, crowding.”
Fraser didn’t even try to hide the smile in his voice. “The rat hole, you mean.”

From: Henry ([email protected])
To: Alex ([email protected])You might be my most maddening client to date, did you know? And I’m in tech support, so that’s saying quite a lot. But fine. I beseech thee, internet stranger! Revealeth to me your deepest secrets! In addition to yours being my most irritating open ticket, it’s also my most interesting. Funny how those qualities so often go hand-in-hand.

Summary
As a grease monkey turned college freshman, Dean's constantly three seconds away from being stressed out of his mind. It hardly helps that he's finally figuring out his sexuality in his thirties.
What might help with that stress is a little phone number (and a big credit card bill). If he can't figure out how to be bisexual in person, he can at least give it a go over the phone, right?
(It's probably a bad idea, but he really can't help himself.)

Summary
“I’ve got you,” Cas says, and it pings at something in Dean. A long forgotten memory.
His mother’s voice asking his father, “You got him?” Dean is four and held up in his father’s arms. And John Winchester says, “I got him.” Like it’s a given. Like, of course he always will have him, safe and sure in his embrace. Dean snuggles closer, wraps small arms around his father’s large shoulders. It’s the last time he hears his mother’s voice. It’s the last time his father holds him close.
Dean loses his home on a day in early November. Twice.

or, losing Cas triggers memories of the fire. Time slips strangely around Dean as he navigates two loses and longs for a comforting embrace.
