Summary
There were lots of things about saving the world that weren’t quite what Mike Wheeler thought they were going to be.
For a start, no one had prepared him for how anticlimactic the actual thing would feel. All those battles and fights and losses and all that fear and in the end, it had come down to fighting demodogs while Will, Max and El sat with blank, white eyes, some battle raging in their heads that the rest of them had no part in.
The second thing was what would happen after it was over. One of the main things that had bound them all was gone. And where the hell did that leave the rest of them? What kept them together if not that?
The answer, ultimately, was nothing.

Mike hides in the bathroom at a party he followed Will to, based on 'Michael In the Bathroom' from Be More Chill.

“Okay, sure, yeah. What about him?”
“I’m a bad friend.” Mike admitted, breathing it out like a vomited confession, like something he was desperate to be rid of.
“Did something happen?” Steve asked.
“Yes.” He paused. “Well, no. It’s— it’s more like… more like… he got a boyfriend.” Mike huffed out a breath.
“I know.” Steve agreed slowly, brows raised. “Carlton. Will, Robin and I met up a while back and he introduced us. Seems like a good kid. What about him?”
Mike felt like a fucking idiot.
Of course Steve didn’t get it. Why would Steve get it?
“I… I just…” How was Mike even meant to begin to talk about this? “It’s driving me crazy, man. I hate the guy.”
OR -
Mike spirals about his feelings, gets in his car, and somehow ends up going to Steve Harrington for help. He gets a much-needed pep talk and finally goes after what he wants.

As they’ve told him a hundred times, Lucas and Dustin are totally fine with Will being gay. It's not a problem at all, there's nothing weird about it! They're super cool with it.
They're very insistent about how cool with it they are to the point where Will is starting to wonder if it's him or themselves that they're trying to convince, and that actually, they might not be that cool with it after all.Nothing about Will’s behaviour has changed; he’s exactly the same as he always was.
