Summary
“Just admit it, Buck. You’re a scaredy cat.”
Buck huffs and flops against the arm of the couch dramatically, moving away from Eddie indignantly. He is not a scaredy cat, okay? He just prefers to not be in emotional stress when watching a movie because movie nights are supposed to be relaxing. Suspense means the exact opposite of that.
So, once again, he is not a scaredy cat. He just likes to keep his nervous system regulated.
“I am not,” he says vehemently.
Eddie smiles over at him. It’s a playful thing and Buck hates how much it doesn't get on his nerves. He rolls his eyes. “God, Eddie. Just play the freaking movie. I’ll prove it to you.”
He raises his eyebrows, clearly in disbelief of Buck's words. “Alright,” he chuckles. “Just don’t hide in my shoulder when things get tense.”
“Whatever,” Buck mumbles. He settles back, tucking his legs up into himself and gets ready to prove his best friend wrong.
(Or, Buck and Eddie watch The Backrooms for their movie night, Buck can't sleep because of it, and somewhere along the way Eddie got what he wanted all along.)

Summary
Adam tosses his arms out to his sides. “What do you want, Ronan? I’ve already have a shit fucking day and the last thing I need is you being just another asshole.”
“That! That’s what I fucking want. I want you to cuss and to get mad and to admit how you actually fucking feel.”
Fervently, Adam shakes his head. His eyebrows pull downward in something sad. He feels any simmering anger diminish, replaced with a tired sense of it. “I don’t want to be someone who's mad,” he confesses, his voice verging on a broken whisper.
Ronan steps away from the desk which means he moves closer to Adam. The room somehow seems even smaller with Ronan in its space. Not because of his height but because he’s him – everything all at once. “Why?”
“Because I don't wear it like you. It don’t look right on me. It makes me,” he cuts himself off. He doesn’t want to say too much. He always regrets it in the end. “God. I don’t know, Ronan. What the hell does it matter to you anyway?”
“The fuck is that supposed to mean? You think I don’t care?”
(Or, being something akin to free, unwanted anger, cracking yourself open, vulnerability from the most unexpected person, and becoming that person's man.)

Summary
Buck sighs again, quieter this time. He looks down at his lap. “I was with Tommy, earlier.”
It says something that Buck is even aware of that sentence being enough of an explanation.
Eddie holds himself back from making any gesture that would just upset Buck more. “Oh. Did something happen?”“I mean, not really.” He angles his body towards Eddie, bringing a leg up on the couch. “Just, like, do you think acne is gross?”
Eddie’s brain pauses. He quickly picks up on the implications of Buck’s question and Tommy being mentioned one after the other. He decides to answer Buck before he overthinks anything rather than beginning a rant. “No, of course not. That’s ridiculous.”
“Okay,” Buck nods but doesn’t say anything else.
(Or, bacne, rubbing acne cream on your best friend's back, a bad soon-to-be ex boyfriend, and a wonderful soon-to-be boyfriend.)

Summary
“I think,” Eddie begins as Buck tries to find another piece, “that If I tried to get on one knee so soon after waking up, I wouldn’t get back up again.”
Buck pauses, turning his head towards Eddie very slowly. He blinks. Then blinks again, processing. “W–what?”
“Buck,” Eddie says softly – but confident – as he hooks his ankle around Bucks under the coffee table and leans in close to murmur, “will you marry me?”
(Or, summer born afternoons, naps, puzzles, a dramatic metaphor about laundry, and asking your best friend to marry you.)
