“You know Bowie?” Gerard began. “He said we’re all made of stardust. Like, we’re tiny pieces of something huge. Even when everything’s shit, there’s still something magical in all of us.”

“That’s kind of dumb,” Frank said lazily. “But it’s nice, I guess.”

“It’s not dumb,” Gerard protested. “It means we can never really fall apart. You and me, we’re stardust.”

Sure, you had to be strong to use heroin. But right now? Gerard felt invincible.

Frank is broken, running from a sour home life of looming threats and danger disguised as parental figures. Gerard is fed up with conforming to his middle-class roots. Together, they leave it all behind, flying high on the adrenaline from their escape. But when the rush fades and the stardust settles, they are faced with a terrible reality.

No one can fly forever. Eventually, you need to come down.

“You know, your birthday is a very spiritual time Frank.” Ray said, sounding a little sagely while looking over the top of his reading glasses at him. He often did this when he knew he was right about something. “Don’t you want to know what the cards have to say about the year ahead of you?”

“No.” Frank replied. “I think you pretty much covered it all, don’t you?”

“You would say that.” Ray shook his head. He was holding his phone up with one of his many astrology apps open to where he had Frank’s natal chart saved. “It’s all here in your chart.”
