Summary
“We could…be friends, maybe.” Shane’s voice was small, hesitant on almost every sound.
“Wha–” Ilya’s reply was less of a word and more of a stupid, confused noise like he’d been punched. That probably would’ve caught him less off guard than what Shane actually said.
“Y’know, text about the hockey gossip? You call, I answer? Friends.”
Something terrifyingly bright exploded into Ilya’s chest. Something dangerous, that felt like maybe it could keep him warm through the summer in Russia, through the chill that permeated his childhood home no matter how warm it was outside.
“And also we like to suck each other’s dicks,” he quipped, trying to deflect.
“Fuck off, Rozanov.”
---
Drunk and young and stupid, Shane and Ilya choose to be honest - just a little bit. To lean into each other, instead of apart. What happens if they choose to be a little bit brave on a Vegas rooftop in 2010, and keep choosing it?

Summary
“No, you’re trying to push me away, like Sochi and Vegas but this time I’m not going to let you. I know I’m not just a quick fuck and I know you feel this too.”
“I always knew you’d be the type to get attached. But this arrangement isn’t worth it, not when I can find a girl that’s just as easy as you, and will not bore me to death, Hollander.”
Or: Cliff doesn't injure Shane, and Ilya breaks up with him (and breaks his heart) only to realize that he can't not love Shane. But this time, when he tries to get Shane back, Shane won't make it easy. And neither will the handsome defenseman on Shane's new team, who is tasked with protecting their star center (and his heart). Oh, and did I mention he's also gay...and Canadian... and very much in love with Shane Hollander.

Summary
In hopes to improve his English, Ilya Rozanov subscribes to the New Yorker.
He does not expect himself to fall in love with a column, especially the author.
Shane Hollander only knows how to write from his heart by cataloguing loneliness as his own, about the performance of public life and about wanting something that he cannot safely name.
Ilya learns new words from him.
Yearning. Vulnerability. Home.
And he is practicing to say them out loud.

Summary
“Look it’s not that hard, just go be cool for a few hours and if you get stuck just ask yourself: WWHD–-what would Henry do?”
They used to swap places all the time as kids. At school, at the playground, at practice. For fun. It had been easy then—like a quick changing of jerseys between periods. That was before the invisible fork in the road that had inexplicably parted them in their teens. It's been over a decade since they’ve done this bit. And Shane doesn’t want to do it. Not because he can’t do it but because he is so, so tired of playing clean-up crew for Henry’s fuckups.
Shane hesitates, jaw tightening. Then he slowly exhales through his nose.
“Do you. Still have. The clip-ons.” Shane grits out.---
Or: Shane is a good brother and fills in for his identical twin, Henry, during a photoshoot. Enter: Ilya Rozanov. One case of mistaken identity leads to disastrous outcomes.Bookmarked by beckie123
