"What're you even doing up?" Genya, unconcerned with the possibility of lurking demons. Splashed the water aimlessly again, Tanjirou's eyes curved down his body — the lax position with his palms flesh to the earth. Shoulder's loose and head slightly lowered in that absentminded manner.
There were no perfectly circular holes in his body, oozing with lazy streams of blood. Not even one scar left to indicate that it had even happened.
"I could ask you the same thing." He looks away, shifting his gaze back to the curls of steam coming from the waters edge.
In his peripheral, Genya gives him a curt look. "You're shit at deflecting, you know."
A breath blows from Tanjirou's nose, its company being an unhappy smile. "Habit."
"Why? ain't got no one else?"
"No, I…" Tanjirou floundered, searching for the words in a mind that seemed too heavy. A lesson buried underneath a thick sludge of red. "I am an older brother."
A sharp inhale to his right, Genya's head facing forward and the obscurity of the darkness.
"Ah," he said, like it made all the sense in the world.
