“Well, they had pretty good steak, but I don’t know if they’d have anything you would like,” Hayden says, and kicks off his shoes. He falls onto his bed with a contented sigh, then looks over at Shane, who hasn’t said anything yet. “Shane? You good?”
Shane means to say he’s fine, but what comes out instead is: “Rose is having a baby.”
Hayden sits up abruptly.
“Whoa,” he says. “You’re serious?”
“Yeah,” says Shane. “She just called me. She took three tests.”
“Been there, brother,” says Hayden, his eyes wide. Shane puts his head in his hands again.

A few weeks after Rose and Shane split up, Rose discovers that she's pregnant. Overwhelmed by the prospect of fatherhood, Shane puts off confronting Ilya about his feelings, and they never hook up at the All-Stars Game. They find their way back to each other anyway.

Summary
Finished tying his shoes, and seemingly not expecting a response, Shane gets to his feet. At the door he pauses, looking back at Ilya, that shy, almost-smile that Ilya could draw from memory on his face. If Ilya had a heart, it would ache with how beautiful Shane always is, especially when he’s walking out the door.
“See you next year?” Shane asks, mostly succeeding at not sounding hopeful.
Ilya closes his eyes. It’s his lot in life to let Shane Hollander go, over and over. That’s the price of getting to have him at all. Even if just for one night, Ilya is willing to pay it.
“We’ll see, Hollander,” he says. He doesn’t open his eyes until he hears the click of the door as Shane pulls it shut behind him.—
or, Ilya's father doesn't die in 2017. They get older, but not any less stupid about each other. Shane gets a boyfriend; Ilya gets on medication; they work on becoming whole people. And they always find their way back to each other.
OR a story for the olds/elder millenials who love Shane and Ilya's baby love but ALSO think it's hot when people in their thirties make active choices about who they are and what they want in their partner!!

Summary

Cliff Marleau can be a dumbass, it’s fair to say - anyone can, some people would claim it more likely for men, and some people would certainly claim that being in a profession that involves violence, speed, and sharp things, and a ridiculous amount of travel all on a regular basis would make it pretty likely for someone to be a dumbass. He does dumb shit sometimes, but it’s usually pretty basic.
Actually, how this started was years ago, when he still felt just barely out of being a rookie himself and Coach asked him to keep a watch on their new Russian rookie Ilya Rozanov, now Boston’s captain and one of Cliff’s good friends.
And Cliff is pretty damn curious about the girlfriend Ilya swears he doesn’t want to have.
OR: Cliff's investment in getting Ilya to admit he's more invested than normal in Montreal Jane throws him and the Boston Raiders down the path of queer allyship.
