Dean doesn't need an alpha. He and his daughter, Riley, have been fine by themselves for this long, why change anything?
Except, Gabriel and Riley keep asking Dean when he's going to get her another dad, and being the last omega in their friend group to get mated is getting old fast. So, maybe having someone else along for the ride could be fun, but after a rocky past, Dean isn't sure if he can trust anyone enough to let them around his family; especially not enigmatic actor Castiel Novak- who can't seem to keep out of the tabloids for more than five minutes. He's the last thing Dean needs, but maybe, what Dean wants might be more important than what he needs.

Summary
Dean Winchester knows two things about hockey, two things his dad made sure he knew. One, hockey is a guy’s sport, and two, hockey is family. Hockey meant Sam and Bobby and Benny and Victor and Gabriel and hell, his entire team. So when Victor gets traded, Russian-star-turned-new-teammate Castiel Krushnic becomes a threat. As much as Dean hates him for that, the longer he sticks around, the more he begins to threaten that first rule too. Dean’s been taught his whole life that those who play hockey should not be captivated by deep accented voices and the way a guy handles his stick, so how the hell is he supposed to justify what he’s starting to think about Cas? All Dean wanted at the beginning of the season was to win, and now all he wants to do is figure out how he feels about Cas and how to deal with it without ruining his career and tearing his family apart.

Summary
Castiel is at the end of his rope. He's always hated the waiting. He wants to be the one out there braving gunfire and jumping out of helicopters and maybe not Saving the Day, but certainly saving someone's day. But he hasn't been that person for years. Now it's just Dean.
The waiting gets exponentially worse when a military number starts calling him daily only weeks before Dean is due home for good. Castiel can think of only one reason for the incessant calls and it's one that he can't face, not even long enough to answer the phone.
